The Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their race towards the 2018 FIFA World Cup title today (Saturday) with a Group D clash against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Russia.
The Nigerian side, led by coach Gernot Rohr and captained by John Mikel Obi, are making their sixth appearance at the mundial.
The game against croatia is crucial, as a win for the Eagles would boost their chances of advancing from the group which also has Iceland and Argentina in it.
Rohr had earlier in the week described the Super Eagles as “ambitious outsiders” going into the World Cup in Russia.
“We’re outsiders, but we’re ambitious outsiders,” he said, adding: “We’re a young team, we may lack experience, but we still have some experienced players like our captain, John Obi Mikel.
“We have very big motivation even though we are far away from the country.
“This is the moment we have been waiting for. We’re very excited. We are happy and have waited a long time to be here.
“We’re ready for Croatia,” he stated.
The match will kick off at exactly 8:00p.m (Nigerian time), while the other game of the group between Argentina and Iceland will hold earlier by 2:00p.m.
Ripples Nigeria… without borders, without fears
