Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha, has showered his nephew Alex Iwobi with praises after the 19-year-old scored his first goal for Arsenal in his home debut on Saturday.
Iwobi has been heavily involved with the first team this pre-season and has also been one of only a few youngsters handed a chance to impress in the Emirates Cup.
The flying winger produced a stunning display against Lyon, using his pace to offer himself as an outlet for midfielders while also getting involved in the collective game.
Okocha, who many will know from his time at Bolton, took to his Twitter account to state how proud he was; while he also used it as an opportunity to praise manager Arsene Wenger for his handling of his young relative.
“My nephew Alex Iwobi marked his Emirate’s debut with a goal.. Great stuff Alex.. Wenger is really doing a great job with the young star,” he tweeted using his handle, @IAmOkocha.
Iwobi and fellow Gunner Chuba Akpom have known each other for a number of years, and Okocha also had words of encouragement for the 20-year-old forward.
Akpom came on as a substitute against Lyon and could, therefore, start against Wolfsburg with Wenger set to ring the changes in order to give a number of the squad players some game time.
“Chuba Akpom whose dad is a good friend of mine is also on the right course..a heart trick in their Asian trip says a lot about what to come,” Okocha added.
