​Brazil becomes the first team to qualify for 2018 FIFA W'Cup​

South American giants Brazil have become the first team to seal their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

Brazil secured a 3-0 win over Paraguay early Wednesday, as Argentina and Uruguay suffered 2-0 and 3-1 defeats respectively.

Philippe Coutinho, Neymar and Marcelo scored Brazil’s goals. Neymar also missed a penalty as his side moved nine points clear of second-placed Colombia.

As it stands, Brazil are 9 points clear off second-placed Columbia, who are followed by Uruguay, Chile and Argentina in that order.

With the top four teams from the 10-nation qualifying group going on to represent at the global competition, Brazil is now already a team to watch in Russia as they cannot finish lower than fourth in the South American qualifying.

Meanwhile, two-time World Cup winners Argentina face a battle to qualify for Russia with their 2-0 defeat to Bolivia leaving them fifth.

And with Lionel Messi on a four-match ban, they are on the verge of finishing fifth with just four qualifiers remaining.
