Madrid regain top spot in La Liga after 3-1 win

Spanish giants Real Madrid moved back above Barcelona to the top of the league after earning a comfortable 3-1 win against Osasuna on Saturday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring on 24 minutes when he slotted a shot under goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu to earn his 14th goal of the season, before Sergio Leon ran clear to chip an equaliser nine minutes later.

In the second half, Isco darted onto a loose ball to steer a shot inside the far post on the hour mark, and Lucas Vazquez chipped in the third goal at stoppage time to wrap up the day.

Real’s victory moved them a point ahead of Barcelona, with two games yet outstanding, hours after Barca had gone top by winning 6-0 at Alaves.

Real’s win was overshadowed by an injury on home team, as the game will definitely be remembered chiefly for the injury to Tano Bonnin, as the full-back broke his leg in a first-half challenge by Isco

Osasuna, who are currently on their third coach of the season in Petar Vasiljevic, look certain to be relegated at the end of this season, but can take encouragement from a spirited performance in defeat.

Madrid will play in the UEFA Champions League next week Wednesday against Napoli, while Osasuna will travel to Celta Vigo for their La Liga clash on February 19.
