10 doctors treating COVID-19 patients contract virus in Kano

Dr Abukakar Nagona, the Chairman of Association of Resident Doctors at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has revealed that no fewer than 10 doctors have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano, Dr Nagona said that the doctors tested positive to the virus after treating patients, who came to the hospital with symptoms later discovered to be COViD-19.

“Eight of the infected doctors have been sent to Isolation centres, while the remaining two have gone into self-isolation in their respective homes, as they were yet to develop any symptoms,” he said.

The Kano State Ministry of Health, had in a post on its Twitter handle, @KNSMOH, on Wednesday morning confirmed that the state recorded 32 new cases of the virus but did not say if they were health workers.

However, Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Sanusi Bala, told Channels Television that the 32 cases were all health workers.

Kano now has recorded 397 cases; out of the number, three persons had been treated and discharged while eight had died.
