A suicide bomber on a motorcycle who targeted a local tribal leader launched an attack near a park in the eastern Kunar province killing 10 people in the process according to an Afghan official.

“Jan was a vocal public opponent of the Taliban and was leading a local uprising against Taliban fighters in his area in Dangam district.

“Forty other civilians were wounded in the attack which took place in the provincial capital, Asadabad,” said Sayedkhaili.

A statement from the Afghan Interior Ministry condemned the attack and called it, “an act against humanity.” The statement set the death toll at 11 people killed in the attack.

As at the time of filing in this report, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack but locals are pointing fingers at the Taliban.
