1. APC Governors’ Forum DG accuses Oshiomhole of destroying the party

The Director-General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the umbrella body of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Salihu Lukman, has accused its National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of destroying the party. Lukman, who made the accusation in an August 6 letter addressed to Oshiomhole, also blamed him for the diminishing fortunes of the party.

2. #REVOLUTIONNOW: APC says those in support of Sowore are enemies of Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has justified the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow, saying that it should be seen as a “legal and timely action” to protect the country against threats to peace and safety. According to the APC, the call for #RevolutionNow was a treasonable offence for which no government anywhere in the world would fold its hands and declare as a non-issue.

3. Nigeria now global leader in drug trafficking –US report

A United States government’s report on drug trafficking on Thursday said Nigerian traffickers are leading globally. In the comprehensive report made available to the media, the rate at which the illicit drugs are trafficked from the country had become worrisome to the international community.

4. Zamfara Gov sacks secretaries of all 14 LGs, Rector, Provost of state tertiary institutions

Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle on Thursday dismissed all 14 local government secretaries in the state and ordered their replacement with immediate effect. The governor also approved the appointment of the rector of the state polytechnic and provost of the college of education in the state.

5. DSS shopping for evidence to nail Sowore —Afenifere

The Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, on Thursday, expressed doubt in Nigerian judiciary as a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Department of State Security an order to detain Omoyele Sowore, the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), for 45 days. Afenifere in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, alluded to a legal rigmarole in DSS securing a court order for the continued detention of Sowore.

6. Police parade 49 suspects allegedly terrorizing Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Thursday, paraded 49 criminal suspects who were allegedly terrorizing Abuja community. Information gathered revealed that they were arrested for various crimes bothering on kidnapping, robbery, car theft, one chance robbery, drug abuse, cultism and others.

7. Buhari orders Defence HQ to probe incident where soldiers killed policemen, freed kidnap kingpin

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday directed the Defence Headquarters to begin immediate probe of the incident where Nigerian soldiers’ allegedly killed three policemen to save a notorious kidnapper in Taraba State. The troops of 93 Battalion, Takum, Taraba, where fingered to have carried out the act on Wednesday.

8. Jonathan was ‘a push and start President’, never won any election — APC dep spokesman

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been described as ‘a push and start President’ who has always lost elections even in his home state, Bayelsa State. This claim was made on Thursday by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena.

9. Ekiti Court condemns two to death by hanging

Two men, Sunday Adewa and Amos Adedayo, were on Thursday sentenced to death by hanging by an Ado Ekiti High Court after they were found guilty of robbery and illegal possession of firearms. The convicts were said to have robbed one Mrs Abosede Malomo at Ilogbo Ekiti in the Ido/Osi Local Government area of Ekiti State on June 4, 2015, with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and inflicting bodily injuries on her.

10. Iwobi to join Everton as Arsenal accept £40m deal on deadline day

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi is set to become an Everton player after the club agreed a £40m deal with Arsenal on transfer deadline day. The Gunners had rejected an initial bid of £30m from the Toffees on Wednesday, but accepted the upgraded bid just before the summer transfer window is closed.
