2. SOWORE: Falana writes AFG Malami

Lagos lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, has demanded the release of the co-Convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore and his co-detainee, Olawale Bakare from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in a letter to the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. The letter dated December 13, 2019 and made available to journalists on Sunday, is consequent on the take over of the prosecution of Sowore and Bakare by the Office of the Attorney General from the DSS. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, on Sunday reacted to comments credited to the duo of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy Philip Shaibu, that he taught them everything they are executing in the state presently, including the fight against godfatherism. Oshiomhole, who reacted to the duo’s statement in a television programme at the weekend, said he never thought them violence and how to lose elections. Read more

4. Obaseki’s aide lashes at Oshiomhole, says learn to win elections without the use of thugs

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has been advised to stop employing thugs to win elections in the country. The special adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie gave the advice to Oshiomhole on Sunday. He said that the APC national chairman should try and support good governance, which according to him remains the surest path towards winning elections. Read more

5. CAN tackles CJN, wants him removed over comment on Sharia law

The President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has called for the removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammed, over his alleged religious bias. Ayokunle made the call in his reaction to the CJN’s call for the integration of Sharia law in the country’s penal code through a constitutional amendment. However, the CAN president in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, described the statement credited to the CJN as provocative and unacceptable. 6. The signs are ominous for ex-FIRS chief, Fowler as Presidency ‘sources’ link him to N40bn fraud

Few days after his removal, is the immediate past Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler, about to be hounded by anti-graft agencies? Fowler, who was removed last week by President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly been mentioned in an alleged misappropriation of N40 billion in the presidency. 7. First Karaye, now Bichi; five district heads believed to be loyal to Emir Sanusi sacked

In a suspected move to eliminate all perceived to be loyal to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Bichi Emirate Council has dismissed five district heads. Among the district heads who were dismissed on Sunday was head of Dambatta, Muktar Adnan, said to be the longest serving kingmaker in Kano and reportedly turbaned late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, in 1963. The other four district heads in Bichi Emirate dismissed are those of Tsanyawa, Dawakin Tofa, Minjibir and Bichi. Read more

8. Dangote refinery will save Nigeria $10bn —Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said on Sunday the Dangote Refinery would save the country over $10 billion spent on crude importation when it comes on stream. She added that the refinery would provide thousands of jobs for Nigerians when it becomes operational. The minister, who stated this when she was conducted round the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Petrochemical complex, fertilizer plant, and Subsea gas pipeline projects, added that the government would continue to provide enabling environment for local businesses to grow. Zamfara State’s former governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, on Saturday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) was still strong and intact in the state, in spite of the challenges facing it. He spoke at the party stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Talata-Mafara area of the state. Addressing the crowd at the meeting, who came from the 14 local government areas of the state, the former governor urged them to remain calm and law-abiding. Read more

10. Lecturer, 10 other hostages beg Nigerian govt to rescue them from Boko Haram captivity

A college lecturer and 10 other people who were abducted recently by Boko Haram insurgents, on Sunday appealed to the Nigerian government to come to their rescue. The hostages, who are mostly Christians from Yobe State, also pleaded with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to help secure their freedom. The victims appeared in a video shared by the terrorists and called for help from the Nigerian authorities and concerned individuals and organizations, including CAN. Read more
