1. Ahead of guber poll, PDP tells El-Rufai to steer clear of Kogi

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday advised Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. to steer clear of the state, saying the people abhor incitements and threats. El-Rufai heads the All Progressives Congress, (APC) National Campaign Council for the Kogi governorship election.

2. Impeached Kogi deputy gov begs Buhari to intervene

Impeached Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, has alleged that he was subjected to ill-treatment by different forces in the state. Achuba, while speaking to journalists in his private residence on Sunday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the political crisis currently rocking the state to prevent breakdown of law and order. Speaking on the alleged ill-treatment, he said he was treated like a common criminal even when the law recognised him as the deputy governor of the state.

3. Again, Nigerian govt promises hard time for purveyors of fake news, hate speech

For the umpteenth time, the Federal Government on Sunday vowed to deal with purveyors of fake news and hate speech in the country. ,The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who stated this at a meeting with online publishers in Lagos on Sunday, also pointed out emphatically that no amount of attacks, sponsored or otherwise, would stop the implementation of approved recommendations on the reform of broadcasting code. The minister solicited the support of online publishers in the quest to tackle fake news and their sponsors in the country.

5. Police rescue Asst. Commissioner of Police kidnapped in the Kaduna corridor

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Musa Rabo, who was kidnapped along Barde-Jos road by gunmen Saturday had been rescued. He was rescued on Sunday by a combined team of police operatives from Kaduna, Niger and Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, backed by members of the elite police special forces. This was revealed by the force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba in Abuja.

6. EBONYI: Gov Umahi under attack for approving establishment of herders’ settlement

The Organisation of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora (OESID) has asked the State Governor, Dave Umahi to prepare for backlash from the people if he refused to back out of the planned establishment of grazing reserve settlements for herdsmen in the state. In a statement signed by its Spokesman, Pascal Oluchukwu, in Abuja on Sunday, the group urged the governor not to impose herders’ programme on Ebonyi’s ancestral land.

7. Over 500, 000 admission spaces were unutilized in 2018 – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said on Sunday that over 500,000 spaces were not utilized in the admissions into the nation’s tertiary institutions last year. At least 1,126,025 candidates applied for admission into the nation’s universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and Innovation Enterprise Institutes (IEIs) last year. Also, a total of 585,498, out of the total sum, were utilized, while a total of 527,815 slots were not utilized in the 2018 admission process. The board disclosed these in its weekly bulletin released in Abuja, Sunday.

8.Why IMF backed Nigeria’s border closure —Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said on Sunday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) backed the Federal Government’s decision to close Nigeria’s borders because it discovered that the step was not punitive. The federal government had insisted the borders would remain closed until Nigeria and its neighbours agree on existing ECOWAS protocol on movement.

9. Nigerian govt earmarks $1.61bn for 24-hour power supply, targets 20,000MW by 2022

Managing Director, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Usman Gur, has said that the Nigerian government in collaboration with international donor agencies have set aside over 1.61 billion dollars to ensure constant power supply in the country. Gur made this disclosure on Sunday in Kano while briefing newsmen at the Kumbotso power sub-station. He said the project would be carried out under the Transmission Rehabilitation Expansion Programme, adding that they would be rehabilitating and expanding to degree 20, 000 Megawatts by 2022 across the country.

10. CBN comes out against charges by telcos for USSD transactions; but new information shows it’s been aware all along

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has asked banks to move their business from telecommunications companies that are working on increasing the charges on unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) banking transactions. Godwin Emefiele, speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Washington DC, stated that there had been previous efforts to reach an understanding with telcos which did not yield the desired results.
