1. ALLEGED MOSQUE DEMOLITION: Wike takes Fayemi on site tour, says he has nothing against Islam

In a bid to clear the Rivers State Government of allegation of demolition of a mosque in the state, Governor Nyesom Wike has taken the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on a tour of the site where the mosque was allegedly demolished in the Trans Amadi area of the state capital, Port Harcourt. The governor, who has been widely criticised for the alleged demolition, declared that he has nothing against the practice of Islam in the state.

2. PDP latches on stale video to mock Buhari, APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mocked the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency for supposedly pushing out a video where the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, pleaded with Nigerians to pardon Buhari over his “false” West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate claims. In a statement on Sunday, PDP said following the video of the media interview by Mohammed, that it was needful that President Buhari saved the judiciary and the nation further troubles by immediately throwing in the towel and vacating the presidential seat.

3. KOGI GUBER: Yahaya Bello picks Chief of Staff, Onoja as running mate

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has chosen his Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja, as running mate for the November 16 governorship election. An aide to the governor told TheCable that Bello submitted Onoja’s name to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his trip to Abuja earlier in the week.

4. XENOPHOBIA: 400 Nigerians register to return home from South Africa

Not less than 400 Nigerians have registered to take advantage of the offer by Air Peace to ferry Nigerians willing to leave South Africa over the renewed wave of xenophobic attacks, the Nigerian Mission in the Southern African country has said. Foreign nationals in the country, including Nigerians, have come under attack over the past week, leading to reprisal attacks back home in Nigeria against South African business interests.

5. XENOPHOBIA: 1 killed, 5 injured in renewed attacks in South Africa

The South African Police has confirmed that one person has been killed and five others injured in renewed xenophobia-inspired violence in the country’s financial capital, Johannesburg, on Sunday. The confirmation made by the Gauteng Police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele, on Sunday, was further corroborated by the President of the Nigerian Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo.

6. Oshiomhole, Obaseki ‘war’ resurfaces

The seeming proxy war between the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, and incumbent governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki may not abate soon. Days after publicly claiming that Obaseki sacked the only Commissioner nominated by him, Oshiomhole has again been forced to deny an alleged plot to impeach Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Oshiomhole who was reacting to a claim by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, that he was making plans to impeach Obaseki with the aid of lawmakers loyal to him, described the allegation as “arrant nonsense”.

8. Army, police vow to deal with officers who compromise in war against banditry, kidnapping

Authorities of the Nigerian Army, Police and other security agencies deployed in the ongoing war against banditry and kidnapping in Katsina State have launched investigations into their officers to establish their alleged compromise in the war. This is coming after some of their personnel were accused of complicity by the repentant bandits and herdsmen in almost all the 6 out of the 8 frontline local government areas visited by the dialogue train led by Governor Aminu Masari.

9. Lagos, Ogun governors partner to introduce tolls on three federal roads

In a bid to reduce maintenance cost of the Ikorodu-Ogijo-Sagamu, Epe-Ijebu-Ode and the Lagos-Ota-Abeokua roads, Lagos and Ogun state governments have introduced tolls. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State revealed that he and his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had agreed to commercialise these three federal roads.

10. Abia State Polytechnic sacks 258 workers

About 258 workers of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, have been sacked as the institution begins the implementation of the review report on verification of staff and their certificates. The report was approved by the State Executive Council in April 2019.
