1. Sowore fights back, challenges detention order

Not backing down, the presidential candidate of the African Action Alliance in the February 2019 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, Friday applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside its order permitting the Department of State Services (DSS) to detain him for 45 days. Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow movement, through his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), argued in the 19-ground application that the order breached his fundamental rights.

2. Fani-Kayode dares Buhari to jail every Nigerian and see what will happen to him

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the re-arrest of Uyi Giwa-Osagie, Atiku Abubakar’s lawyer and his son-in-law, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a a series of posts on his official Twitter handle on Friday, he called out President Muhammadu Buhari, telling him that, even if he jailed every single Nigerian, and no one is left on the street, stones will rise up to oppose him.

3. ‘Arrest insecurity, not political opponents!’, Omokri tells Buhari

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s arrest of lawyer, and son-in-law to presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uyi Giwa-Osagie, in the last election, Atiku Abubakar. Omokri said the arrest was done because Buhari was “very angry” and wanted to punish Atiku for acting “presidentially.”

4. ‘You’re cheap, spineless,’ PDP knocks Kogi lawmakers

The major opposition party in Kogi State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the state lawmakers as worse than “bootlickers”. It said they were “cheap and spineless.”

The party stated this in reaction to the move by the state legislature to impeach Governor Yahaya Bello’s deputy, Elder Simon Achuba.

5. SLAIN POLICEMEN: Reps caucus wants Nigerian govt to set up judicial commission

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives, on Friday, called on the Federal Government to set up a judicial commission of enquiry to investigate the killing of three policemen and a civilian by soldiers in Taraba State during a covert operation to arrest a notorious kidnapper in the state. The Reps, who condemned the killing, also warned that the killing must not be swept under the carpet or treated with levity.

6. After announcing Sowore’s expulsion, AAC’s ‘new Chairman’ denounces #RevolutionNow, slams Amaechi 

“We dissociate the party from any move to unconstitutionally topple the government and any individual who may have done that in the name of the party did so without our consent and clearly did not do so in the name of the party or on its behalf,” the new chairman, Leonard Ezenwa said.

7. ‘I resign’; ‘No, you’re fired’; INEC, C’River REC in drama of confusion

What looked like a drama occurred on Friday in Cross Rivers state as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, sacked the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Frankland Briyai after he announced his resignation. Briyai had announced his resignation on Thursday.

8. Protesters block Kaduna-Abuja highway

Commercial drivers have blocked both lanes of the Kaduna-Abuja highway in protest. Motorists were on Friday trapped for hours on the Kaduna-Abuja highway as drivers of articulated vehicles blocked both lanes of the high way.

9. Unidentified man found hanging in Delta

Residents of Umuagu area of Asaba, the Delta State capital, woke up Friday morning to discover the body of an unidentified man hanging in front of a shop in the area. According to the residents of the area, the man was found hanging on the roof of a store located on a road, adding that the man is not known in the area.

10. NFF secures international friendly for Super Eagles against Ukraine

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that an international friendly between the Super Eagles and Ukraine will hold next month. It will be the team’s first outing since their third-place playoff victory over Tunisia at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cairo, Egypt
