1. Buhari appeals to traditional, religious leaders to help stop Tiv/Junkun killings

President Muhammadu Buhari appealed to traditional and religious leaders to intervene in the protracted fighting between Junkun and Tiv tribes in Taraba State. The President also called on the government and people of Benue and Taraba States to exercise restraint in the wake of the gruesome killing of Rev. Fr. David Tanko in Kpankufu Village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

2. BAYELSA GUBER: APC reschedules primary again

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the postponement of the governorship primary in Bayelsa State to Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The party had earlier fixed Saturday, August 30, for the primary after the initial postponement from August 29.

4. CBN directs Nigerians to deposit ‘overused, mutilated’ naira notes in banks before September 2

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed Nigerians to deposit overused or mutilated Naira notes in any bank branch closer to them, on or before September 2, 2019. The apex bank said this was part of its efforts to improve the overall quality of the Naira notes in circulation.

5. IMO: Okorocha dares Ihedioha, says he cannot order his arrest

Former Governor Rochas Okorocha has waved off the order for his arrest by Governor Emeka Ihedioha, saying his successor in office cannot order his arrest. It would be recalled that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Uche Onyeagocha, had announced the order on Thursday at a press briefing in Owerri, the State capital for allegedly hiring of thugs to beat up the Chairman of the State Property Recovery Committee.

6. BAUCHI: Gov Mohammed sacks special adviser six weeks after appointment

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed has sacked his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Musa Shittu, six weeks after he was appointed and sworn in. Shittu was appointed in July 2019 alongside four others.

7. ZAMFARA: 25,000 persons displaced by banditry return home

The Zamfara State Emergency Agency says about 25,000 persons displaced by banditry in the state have returned to their towns and villages. This was revealed by the executive secretary of the agency, Alhaji Sanusi Kwatarkwashi in an interview with reporters on Friday in Gusau, adding that this was made possible by the efforts of the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle.

8. Drama as Fayose storms Ekiti Assembly

Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Thursday, summoned former governor, Ayodele Fayose to appear before its committee on public account over allegations of embezzlement of state funds. The lawmakers got what they asked for on Friday, but were not prepared to welcome the former governor who stormed the state house of assembly faster than expected.

9. INTERNET FRAUD: EFCC arrests suspect wanted by FBI

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that it arrested Joseph Oyediran, one of the suspected internet fraudsters wanted by the United State’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The zonal head of the EFCC in Ilorin, Isyaku Sharu, during a press conference on Friday, said Oyediran, 36, was arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State “as part of an international crackdown on a syndicate of cyber criminals.”

10. Flying Eagles win silver as Burkina Faso clinch men’s football gold at African Games

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 2-0 by Burkina Faso in the final of the men’s football event at the 12th All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco. The Paul Aigbogun side were gunning for their first gold title since 1973, but were forced to settle for silver with the defeat on Friday night.
