1. N90BN ALLEGATION: CAN declares Osinbajo innocent, says ‘the church will fight for him’

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared that the allegation of N90 billion levelled against Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was baseless. A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, had alleged that Osinbajo collected N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue (FIRS) to fund the 2019 election. National President of CAN, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, and other members on Friday visited Osinbajo over the N90 billion allegation to pray with him.

2. MINIMUM WAGE: FG moves to constitute new negotiation team

The Federal Government on Thursday said it would reconstitute a new committee to begin fresh negotiations for the full implementation of the new national minimum wage of N30,000. This was disclosed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, in Abuja. According to him, “The President has put in place a new committee or council called ‘Presidential Committee On Salaries and Allowances”.

3. One week after suspension, court orders forfeiture of assets linked to Oyo-Ita

Funds linked to the suspended Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita have been suspended by the Abuja Federal High Court. The court presided over by Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo-Giwa ordered the permanent forfeiture of the assets on Thursday.

4. 2023: Ondo APC disowns pro-Osinbajo rally

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has detached itself from a campaign which was staged in support of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidency in 2023. Some youths under the auspices of Southwest Youth Congress (SYC) had on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, marched round town, calling on the people to support “good leadership, courage and drive”.

5. KOGI AND BAYELSA GUBER: INEC disqualifies 14 political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Friday disqualified 14 political parties that had been bracing up for the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. The parties were banned from fielding a candidate in the elections. In a statement in Abuja on Friday, INEC National Commissioner and the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, said the commission disqualified eight parties in Kogi state and six in Bayelsa state.

6. ABIA: Ikpeazu represents ‘a generational tragedy’ —Otti

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Abia 2019 election, Alex Otti, on Friday said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had murdered governance in Abia State. Otti knocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration for the deplorable condition of the state.

7. Calabar port receives first container vessel in 13 years

Calabar Port Complex has received its maiden Marguisa Shipping Line’s container vessel, over 13 years after it was concessioned. The draft limitations on the channel has been the reason for the lack of patronage of container liners. The Calabar channel currently has a draft of 6.4 meters at high tide, but requires Nigeria Ports Authority to complete the dredging to the advertised draft of 9.4 meters to attract regular and bigger tonnage.

Founder and Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has harped on the need to immediately revamp the educational sector in Nigeria in order to churn out the right quality of graduates every year. Bakare, of whom a video recently resurfaced and went viral in which he said he would become the 16th President of Nigeria after Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed this on Friday on the side-lines of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Annual Goalkeepers meetings staged in New York.

9. Man sets wife on fire over land dispute in Ondo

Police authority in Ondo State Friday said a man identified as Ojo Daniyan had been arrested for allegedly setting his wife, Dorcas, on fire at Irese Road, Akure, Ondo State. According to the Police spokesperson, Femi Joseph, Ojo committed the offence while his wife was asleep.

10. In latest report, World Bank ranks Nigeria one of the most improved countries in Ease of Doing Business

Nigeria has been ranked as one of the top 20 countries that improved in carrying out reforms in the Ease of Doing Business. This is according to the World Bank report on the top 20 reformers as released by the institution on Friday. The full report on the ease of doing business rankings would be released on October 24.
