1. FG honours Umahi’s request, approves int’l airport for Ebonyi

Government of Nigeria has approved the request for the construction of a new International Airport in Ebonyi State, following a request by Governor David Umahi. The Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika conveyed the approval in a letter to Governor Umahi which was signed by the Director Safety and Technical Policy, Capt. T. A. Alkali on behalf of the Ministry.

2. XENOPHOBIA: It is time to deal with S’Africa —Gbajabiamila

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on Friday emphasized that Nigerian government will now deal decisively with the South African government over the recent attacks on Nigerians in their country. The Speaker made the emphasis at a world press conference held alongside the leadership of the House in Abuja.

3. XENOPHOBIA: Sani faults FG for sending envoy to South Africa

A former member of the upper chamber of the National Assembly representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has faulted the decision of the Federal Government to send a special envoy to South Africa over attacks on foreigners, including Nigerians in the southern African country. According to Sani, in a statement on Friday, the Federal Government would have done better sending emissaries to the families of the bereaved instead of going to South Africa.

4. PDP Senate caucus asks IGP to investigate Ebonyi Gov’s house invasion

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate Caucus has asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to investigate the raid on the Abuja residence of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi. Umahi’s residence had, in the early hours of Wednesday, been invaded by men suspected to be Police officers.

5. Ortom begs Benue pensioners for forgiveness over unpaid entitlements

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has begged protesting pensioners in the state for forgiveness over months of unpaid pension, promising that funds would be released for them to be paid. The governor made the appeal on Friday when he met with the protesters at the gate of Government House, Makurdi, where they had been protesting for two days, expressing regret that this was.

6. NCC moves to control use of internet in Nigeria

The National Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed plans to strictly regulate the use of internet in Nigeria in a bid to curtail the excesses of internet fraudsters. The NCC on Thursday pledged to establish mechanisms to control the use of internet in a bid to protect the nation’s cyberspace against attack and also to protect children against dangerous online contents.

7. PLATEAU: 26 suspects paraded for possession of N16m fake currencies, other crimes

The Plateau State Police Command Friday paraded 26 suspects who were arrested in connection with various crimes including illegal possession of fake currencies worth N16 million. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, while parading the suspects in Jos, said they committed crimes ranging from culpable homicide, unlawful possession of fake currency, armed robbery, car theft, child trafficking and cultism.

8. 100 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, others arrested in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested about 100 suspected criminals alleged to have committed various offences such as kidnapping, armed robbery. among others, in the ongoing Puff-Adder operation in the state. The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the suspects before reporters in Kano, said the operation was part of the command’s resolve to rid the state of all forms of crime and criminality in twenty days.

9. Nigerian government says establishment of national carrier remains top priority

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has said that the Federal Government remains committed to the establishment of a national carrier for the country, alongside provision for maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities for aircraft and the implementation of other components of the aviation roadmap. The minister stated this at a meeting with members of the Joint Aviation Unions Forum, an umbrella body of all unions in the aviation sector, a statement issued by the Director, Press and Public Affairs, Federal Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu, in Abuja on Friday reveals.

10. Panic looms as Bauchi govt confirms outbreak of yellow fever

There was panic and fear in Bauchi State as the government declared an outburst of yellow fever in the state. The outbreak of the disease was confirmed around Yankari Games Reserve.
