1. Jonathan reacts as former British PM Cameron says he rejected UK help to rescue abducted Chibok girls

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied claims by the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron that he (Jonathan) turned down help to rescue the abducted Chibok girls. Some female students were kidnapped on April 14, 2014 from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State. They were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. Cameron, in his recently published memoir, ‘For the Record’, alleged that British troops traced the location of some of the victims and offered to help but Jonathan refused.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed former President Goodluck Jonathan over the accusation levelled against him by former British Prime Minister, David Cameron. In his memoir, For the Record, Cameron had accused the Jonathan administration of corruption and rejecting the help of the British Government in rescuing the 276 Chibok schoolgirls who were kidnapped on April 14, 2014. Jonathan has, however, denied the accusations, claiming that Cameron was keeping grudges against him because he (Jonathan) did not pass legislation supporting same sex marriage in Nigeria.

3. BBOG says Buhari’s govt has failed Chibok girls

The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) advocacy movement Saturday accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of protecting a fake reputation that added no value to citizens. The group said the government has slowed down on efforts to ensure the release of the abducted students of Government Girls College, Chibok, Borno State, and other people held captive by Boko Haram insurgents throughout the country.

4. Osinbajo reveals Nigerian govt’s plan to diversify from oil

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday revealed that the Federal Government had embarked on plans to crash Nigeria’s dependence on crude oil for survival. He said, vibrant commodities trading ecosystem put in place by the government would help diversify the economy and enhance Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.

5. BAYELSA GUBER: APC can’t win Bayelsa in a free and fair election, Dickson replies Oshiomhole

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State says that that the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not stand a chance of winning the governorship election in the State. He added that APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, lacked adequate knowledge of the party’s candidate in the forthcoming governorship election. “My good friend Oshiomhole knows that the APC cannot win Bayelsa in a free and fair election. They can’t win any ward in Bayelsa. None. They have never won any election except intimidating people, manipulating electoral body. He knows that,” he said.

6. Boko Haram fighters raze Emir’s palace in fresh Yobe attack

Rampaging Boko Haram fighters Saturday afternoon burnt a section of the Emir of Jajare’s Palace in Babangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State. Reports say the insurgents entered the town in a commando-style and headed straight to the monarch’s palace but he had left the palace two hours before the arrival of the insurgents. The angry insurgents later burnt a section of the palace and took away a Hilux van from the premises.

7. BENUE: Ortom reassures Igbo community of protection amid reports of ‘coordinated attacks’

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said that the report published by some national dailies claiming that Igbos in the State were targets of “coordinated attacks and threats of annihilation,” was misleading. Speaking on Saturday, the governor reassured the Igbo community and other Nigerians doing business in the State that the current massive onslaught against criminals was yielding results and cases of kidnapping would soon become history.

8. Tribunal upholds Wike’s election

The Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal Saturday validated the re-election of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and dismissed the petition filed by the defeated governorship candidate of the African Action Congress ( AAC), Biokpomabo Awara. ,The tribunal had earlier dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mr. Victor Fingesi, challenging the governor’s victory in the March 9 election in the State.

9. Kidnappers now working with Boko Haram in Kaduna, El-rufai laments

Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday, lamented that kidnappers are now collaborating with “some elements of Boko Haram”, to hold people for ransom. He spoke while fielding questions from State House Correspondents. His comment came 24 hours after some gunmen abducted six schoolgirls and two staff members, from a boarding school in Kaduna.

10. Siasia seeks help from Otedola, Dangote for N36m to appeal FIFA ban

Former Nigeria international, Samson Siasia has called on billionaires Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote for financial support to enable him pay the mandatory 100,000 Swiss Francs (N36.4m) appeal fee at Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The ex-Super Eagles coach was handed a life ban by world football governing body, FIFA over claims that he accepted to receive bribe and manipulate matches.
