1. Ganduje threatens legal action against Wike over demolition of mosque

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has threatened legal action against the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike over the demolition of the Rainbow Town Central Mosque located in the Trans-Amadi Area, Port Harcourt. Ganduje who issued the threat in a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, noted that the demolition of the mosque was a sad story.

2. Buhari applauds his govt on fight against graft, asks EFCC to go after all corrupt persons

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said his government had made considerable achievements in the fight against corruption, which over the years brought embarrassment to Nigeria before the international community. Regretting how corruption retarded development and dented the image of the country among the comity of nations, Buhari called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intensify their efforts in the fight against graft.

3. Leah Sharibu still alive, we won’t relent on efforts to secure her release —Presidency

The Nigerian government says it is still working hard to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, a secondary school student kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State, by Boko Haram insurgents. In a statement on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the government dismissed insinuations that Sharibu had been killed by the terrorists.

Stand-up comedian, Francis Agodan popularly known as I Go Dye has reacted to the continued detention of 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services, (DSS). In a post on his official Instagram account, the Delta State born humour merchant demanded the immediate release of Sowore from DSS detention, pointing out that the President has no moral right to arrest the politician because he (the President) once overthrew the government of Shehu Shagari, thus truncating Nigeria’s democracy at the time.

5. EFCC arrests ponzi scheme operators in Port Harcourt

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Port Harcourt Zonal Office, on Friday, said its operatives had arrested 19 staff of a company allegedly floating a Ponzi Scheme. The ponzi operators were said to have defrauded members of the public of about N2,000,000,000.

6. Buhari returns to Abuja from Japan

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from Japan. According to the president’s special assistant on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari returned to Abuja late Saturday night.

7. Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attack Chibok village

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked Yimirmigza village in Kautikari ward, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. TheCable reports that residents heard strange gunshots at about 6pm on Saturday.

8. Lagos govt frees 123 detained motorcyclists

The 123 male passengers who were intercepted along Moshalashi road, Agege with 48 motorcycles that were coming from Jigawa State have been released from Police custody. The Lagos State Police Command said it was satisfied with the men’s legitimate mission in the state and has allowed them to proceed to their various destinations.

9. INSECURITY: S’East govs ban herders who move with AK-47 rifles, other weapons

Following attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen, the governors of the five states of the Southeast part of Nigeria, on Saturday, announced a ban on herders moving around with AK-47 rifles and other deadly weapons in the region. The Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, revealed this to newsmen at the end of the forum’s meeting in Enugu State.

10. D’Tigers begin FIBA World Cup campaign with defeat to Russia

Nigeria men’s basketball team, D’Tigers bounced off their campaign at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China with a disappointing loss to Russia. The Alex Nwora side did put up a brave fight in the encounter but fell 82-77 to the Europeans, who won the first and final quarters to add to their advantage.
