1. Buhari has secondary education but not WAEC certificate

The Deputy Registrar of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Oshindehinde Adewumi, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Sitting in Abuja that what was presented was not a certificate issued by his organization. He noted that what the defendant, President Muhammadu Buhari, tendered was a statement of result and though he does not have a certificate issued by WAEC, he is considered to have attended secondary school.

2. Proscription: Shi’ites suspend ‘free Zakzaky’ protests

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Shi’ites, has announced the temporary suspension of the ‘Free Zakzaky’ protests by members of the sect demanding the release of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife. This is coming on the heels of the proscription of the group by a Federal High Court, banning all public activities and demonstrations of the group after claiming it had been hijacked by extremists.

3. Miyetti Allah should meet with ‘fishers, farmers, goat breeders, poultry farmers’, not us – Ohaneze

Ohaneze Ndigbo has given reasons for shunning the roundtable discussion on insecurity in Nigeria called by former Head of State, General Abudulsalam Abuubakar. The group explained that socio-cultural groups like PANDEF, Afenifere and Middle Belt Forum should not be lumped together with cattle breeders, stressing that Miyetti Allah should have a roundtable with fishers, farmers, goat breeders, poultry farmers and artisans who are in same category with them.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that comments by its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on national issues have been patriotic and within his constitutional right of freedom of speech. The party described the recent warning issued to him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his alleged felonious comments as a sign of jitters.

5. Anambra traders ban prayers in markets

Marketers in Anambra State under the aegis of Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) has placed a ban on daily and weekly prayers in markets across the state. The President General of the body, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, while addressing market union Chairmen and Secretaries explained that general prayers would only be held once in a month.

6. Buhari sits doing nothing, says Omokri

The former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has mocked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over claims that Atiku Abubakar is exhibiting acts of felony against a ‘sitting’ President, Muhammadu Buhari. On his verified Twitter account, Omokri said APC was right to have described Buhari as a sitting President because he supposedly “sits doing nothing while Nigeria became world headquarters of poorest people.”

The speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital. He assured that the Executive and the Legislative arms of government were working assiduously to address the plight of IDPs.

9. 75 parties, 60 presidential candidates counter Situation Room

The National Interest Group said the report of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (NCSSR) on the 2019 general election is not a true reflection of the realities of the election. The National Interest Group which is made up of Chairmen of 75 political parties, members of Forum of 60 presidential candidates and the National Youth Council among others said the last election failed to meet the threshold for free, fair and credible elections.

10. School proprietress bags jail term over N5m fraud

A school proprietress of Dala Standard Secondary School, Josephine Udeh, has been convicted by a court on a one-count charge of obtaining about N5, 059,000 by false pretence. She was sentenced to jail after trial before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.
