1. Buhari’s minister-designate loses Reps seat

Hon. Emeka Nwajuiba, one of the 43 ministers-designate cleared by the Senate has been sacked from his seat at the House of Representatives on the order of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division. The appellate court, on Wednesday, in an unanimous decision sacked Nwajuiba as member representing Ehimembano/Ihiteuboma/Obowo Federal Constituency of Imo State at the House of Representatives.

2. APC’s anti-democratic tendencies causing distress to Nigerians says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is of the opinion that the anti-democratic tendencies of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is causing distress to many Nigerians. The opposition party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Wednesday also noted that the rising political tension, economic hardship and the spate of insecurity across the country were indications that Nigeria is collapsing under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

3. EFCC to arraign Maurice Iwu over alleged N1.2bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has concluded plans to arraign a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu over an alleged N1.2 billion fraud. According to reports, Iwu would be arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on a four count charge bordering on fraud and money laundering.

4. Severe political alliance with Southwest, CNG tells North

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has called on the North to severe political ties with the Southwest, arguing that the zone has been in the forefront of opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari despite being a major beneficiary of his administration. The group, in a statement by its spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Sulaiman on Wednesday, also called on President Buhari to apologise to Nigerians for dragging the country into a desperate situation.

5. Falana, El-Rufai lock horns over El-Zakzaky’s medical trip

A human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana, and Kaduna state government on Wednesday locked horns over the medical trip permit which the court granted Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky and wife, Zeenat. The Kaduna State government had demanded a strict condition for the medical trip granted the IMN leader and wife by the state High Court in order to ensure their immediate return for trial after the treatment at the Medanta Hospital, India.

6. Assembly begins process to impeach Kogi Deputy Governor

The Kogi State House of Assembly has commenced the process for the impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba. During plenary on Wednesday, Majority Leader of the House, Abdullahi Bello (Ajaokuta, APC), read the impeachment notice as a petition on the floor.

7. Shock as police claim 3 of its officers, one civilian killed by soldiers who freed captured notorious kidnapper

Investigation has been launched into the killing of three police operatives and one civilian by soldiers in Taraba state. Officers of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) were attacked by yet-to-be-identified soldiers along Ibi-Jalingo Road, while taking an alleged  kidnap kingpin, identified as ‘Alhaji Hamisu,’ to the Command Headquarters in Jalingo.

The international oil benchmark, Brent crude, against which Nigeria’s oil is priced, fell by $2.60 to $56.34 per barrel as of 8.10pm on Wednesday. The oil price which traded below Nigeria’s 60 per barrel budget benchmark on Monday lost more than 20 per cent since hitting its 2019 peak in April.

10. Arsenal turns down Everton’s £30m offer for Iwobi

Arsenal Football Club has turned down a £30 million offer made to it by fellow Premiership side, Everton for the services of winger Alex Iwobi, reports say. The bid for Iwobi came after the Marco Silva’s side prioritised move for Wilfried Zaha was turned down by Crystal Palace who are demanding £100m for their star player.
