1. Buhari discredits IMF, World Bank data on Nigeria, warns Nigerians to be wary of them

President Muhammadu Buhari has discredited data presented by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Nigeria, describing them as wild estimates that hardly reflect facts on the ground. Though the President admitted the role of accurate collection of data in the country’s social and economic planning, he was quick to add that data by local institutions are better and more appropriate.

2. 2020 BUDGET: LCCI knocks Nigerian govt’s N305 foreign exchange benchmark

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday commended the return to the January -December budget circle but described as unrealistic the exchange rate assumption of N305 to the dollar. The LCCI stated this through its Director-General, Muda Yusuf, adding that it was difficult to justify this assumption, especially when the country’s earnings were declining.

3. #SEXFORGRADES: UNILAG sets up investigative panel

A panel has been set up by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to probe the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu of its Department of European Languages and Integrated Studies, Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Samuel Oladipo of its Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences. This development is a fallout of an investigative report by the BBC on demands for sexual gratification by some male lecturers from female students.

4. NEW MINIMUM WAGE: FG proposes high-level meeting to seal agreement with labour

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, Wednesday said the Federal Government had scheduled a high-level meeting for the full implementation of the new minimum wage for 15th October. He made the disclosure after a separate meeting with members of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council; the leadership of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

5. GUBER POLLS: INEC to publish voters’ register for Kogi, Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Wednesday said it would on Monday, November 14, officially publish the voters’ register in Bayelsa and Kogi states. This was announced in a statement by the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye. The statement said the registers would also be made available to all the political parties sponsoring candidates for the November 16 governorship election in the states.

6. FG to recover N18.9 trillion backlog income from oil companies

Nigeria Government is planning to enforce a 2018 Supreme Court ruling that will recover the sum of N18.9 trillion ($62 billion) from International Oil Companies (IOC) as its share of income from production sharing contracts. According to a document prepared by the attorney general’s office, IOCs failed to honour a 1993 contract-law requiring the government to receive a greater share of revenue when oil price exceeds $20 per barrel.

7. CAC clears 6-year salary increment arrears

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has revealed that it has paid the over N1bn salary increment arrears which was approved in 2013 by the Federal Government. The nine per cent salary increment arrears had been a source of industrial disputes over the years. Workers union of the commission had on several occasions shut business activities at the commission due to non-payment of the arrears.

8. Police kill four Kidnappers in Edo ambush

Men of the Edo State Police Command on Wednesday killed four suspected kidnappers in a shootout after they were ambushed by the kidnappers. The policemen, who were on a trip, were said to have ran into the kidnappers who were also on a Kidnapping trip around Ogbachi River on the outskirts of Benin City.

9. Man remanded in prison for having carnal knowledge of his daughters

No. 10 Kunle Dipo Street, Majidun, Owutu, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has been remanded in prison custody for having carnal knowledge of his four daughters. Archibong had allegedly been having incestuous sexual relationship with the girls aged between 12 and 20 since 2016. He was arraigned on three counts of continuous sexual relationship with his daughters, failure to get their consent and involvement in immoral relationship with the victims before the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court 1, Lagos. He however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

10. Ola Aina involved in accident, ruled out of Nigeria vs Brazil clash

Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina has been ruled out of the forthcoming international friendly between Nigeria and Brazil billed to hold in Singapore. The Torino of Italy defender was involved in an accident, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the injury he picked up will not let him be available for Sunday’s clash.
