1. Buhari asks govs not to fix Federal roads again

State governors have been asked by President Muhammadu Buhari to desist from fixing federal roads, if at the end they would ask for a refund of money expended for the rehabilitation. Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, stated this in Abuja when he appeared before the House of Representatives’ Ad Hoc Committee on Abandoned Federal Government Projects (Works) from 1999 till date.

2. CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS: Osinbajo dares accusers, says ‘I’ll waive my constitutional immunity’

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Wednesday vowed to waive his constitutional immunity in order to challenge what he termed “claims of libel and malicious falsehood” regarding some corruption allegations against him. The vice president has been in the eye of the storm in recent times as reports, ranging from calculated attempts to whittle down his powers and alleged culpability in corrupt acts, continue to emerge.

3. Our security architecture has failed to secure our citizens —Lawan

Nigeria’s Senate President, Ahmed Lawan on Wednesday, said that the nation’s security architecture had not achieved the desired results of providing the needed security to citizens. He said that security agencies needed better funding and other resources for better performance, adding that security remained a fundamental responsibility of government and that no amount of investment on it is too much. Lawan stated this in his remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the senate committees.

4. After meeting bail conditions, Sowore awaits release

Convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, is set to be released after he fulfilled the bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja. A Federal High Court in Abuja had on Tuesday ordered his release, directing Sowore to deposit his passport at the court’s registry as a condition for his release. His lawyer, Femi Falana, visited the headquarters of the Department of State Services in Abuja on Wednesday to secure Sowore’s release from the agency’s custody.

5. ANTIGRAFT WAR: EFCC reveals how it recovered over N100m from Kwara govt officials

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the agency recovered over N100 million belonging to the Kwara State Government from allegedly corrupt officials in the state. Spokesman for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement, quoted Magu as making the declaration while speaking to Isyaku Sharu, the zonal head of EFCC office in Ilorin.

6. INEC worried poverty, illiteracy, unemployment affecting democracy in Nigeria

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Tuesday expressed concern over the level at which participatory democracy had been haunted by illiteracy, poverty and unemployment in the country. INEC’s Chief Administration Officer, Mr. Tony Ezenmo spoke during the Zonal Training for Electoral Security Personnel for Kogi 2019 Governorship Election.

7. NBC sanctions 45 stations, cautions #BBNaija on ‘unwholesome content’

About 45 broadcasting stations have been sanctioned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for allegedly breaching its code. NBC Director General, Ishaq Kawu, made this disclosure during a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja. He also noted that the programme Big Brother Naija was cautioned against unwholesome content on its broadcast.

8. Lawmaker warns against adoption of El-Rufai’s committee report on true federalism

A lawmaker has vehemently warned against the adoption of the Malam Nasir el-Rufai’s APC Committee report on true federalism, describing part of the report as injurious and antagonistic to the unity of Nigeria as a country. According to Hon. Farah Dagogo, a member representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, the report is ferocious and capable of heating up the fragile peace which had been achieved in the Niger Delta region.

9. UNICEF charges Zamfara Assembly to pass law banning hawking, begging during school hours

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has charged the Zamfara House of Assembly to pass bills banning hawking and begging during school hours in the state. The UN agency issued the charge on Wednesday through Dr Zakari Adam, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, who said the two bills were aimed at increasing access to quality and equitable education in the state.

10. Lawyer docked for threatening to kill Sen Kashamu

A 30-year-old lawyer, Bayo Adedokun, who allegedly threatened to kill Senator Buruji Kashamu and Alhaji Muniru Ogunleyetwo over a land disagreement, was arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrate court on Wednesday. The lawyer was charged with four counts of conspiracy, attempted murder and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. Following the charges, he pleaded not guilty.
