1. Buhari is a man of integrity, he will not run for third term —BMO

Buhari Media Organisation has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to run for a third term in office was sacrosanct, final and irreversible. In a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju in Abuja on Monday, BMO advised those pushing the agenda to respect the president and stop the campaign. Akinsiju said that his organisation had believed that the president’s declaration would put the matter to rest finally. Read more

2. Jonathan replies Lamido, denies trading Bayelsa, washes hands off Malabu scam

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has responded to scathing remarks made about him on the recently held governorship election in Bayelsa State by a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido. Lamido had accused Jonathan of trading the oil rich state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the election so as to buy himself protection from prosecution in the celebrated Malabu oil scam. The former president however insisted in a statement on Monday that the allegations by Lamido were not correct and a blackmail. Read more

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, granted bail to the former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who is standing trial for fraud and money laundering. Justice Okon Abang granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1billion and directed him to produce two sureties in the sum of N500 million each. The judge stressed that the sureties must be serving Senators from any of the six geopolitical zones in the country and must be without pending criminal cases. Read more

4. BORDER CLOSURE: Nigerian govt unmoved, says Benin, Niger yet to comply with conditions for reopening

The Nigerian Government on Monday said the Republics of Benin and Niger have failed to comply with the conditions attached to the possible reopening of its land borders going by the magnitude of seizures by security agents in the last two weeks. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Monday when he led a government delegation to the Seme border. According to him, from the magnitude of seizures made and the number of illegal immigrants apprehended in the last two weeks, it was obvious that “nothing is being done yet by both countries – Benin and Niger – to address the challenges.” Read more

The member representing Jos-South/Jos-East Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has said the controversial Hate Speech Bill will die on arrival if it were passed by the Senate and transmitted to the lower chamber. He revealed that members of the House were already mobilising against the bill, adding that existing laws covered the objectives which the proposal sought to achieve. Read more

6. ALLEGED CONTEMPT: Again, Sowore, Bakare target DSS DG

The convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore and fellow detainee, Olawale Bakare have instituted a contempt suit against the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi over the failure of the Nigerian secret police to release them as ordered by a Federal High Court. This is the second time the duo would institute a contempt charge against Bichi. The first being his refusal to release them after the expiration of the 45 days Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja had given for their detention. Read more

7. IPPIS: ASUU sets up committee to monitor members

The University of Ibadan chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has set up a monitoring committee to ensure that none of its members enlist on the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

UI ASUU announced the committee at a congress of the union held on Monday at the Faculty of Arts of the institution. The congress, presided over by Professor Deji Omole, ASUU Chairman, resolved to follow the directive of the national leadership of the union not to enlist on IPPIS. Read more

8. Lagos to stop daytime movement for trucks

As a part of efforts to ease traffic on roads, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced plans to restrict the movement of heavy duty trucks in the metropolis during the day. Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the government had been pushing the trailers off that whole corridor of Iganmu area to ensure that the journey towards Apapa continued to remain free. He said that the state would soon come up with a comprehensive plan and decisions on traffic management in order to resolve the gridlock. Read more

Muslims in the Southwest geopolitical zone have called for the establishment of Sharia courts in the states in the zone for the benefit of Muslims, which they say are in the majority in the zone. The call was made in a communique issued at the end of the 4th General Meeting of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) the held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday. 10. ALLEGED SCAM: Court remands internet celebrity Mompha in prison

The Federal High Court, Lagos, on Monday remanded in prison the suspected internet fraudster, Ismaila Mustapha, aka Mompha, who is standing trial for alleged N33 Justice Mohammed Liman gave the order shortly after Mompha was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 14- count charge of fraud, money laundering and running a foreign exchange business without the authorisation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Commission had alleged in the charge signed by its counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, that the defendant laundered N33billion through a firm, Ismalob Global Investment Limited between 2015 and 2018. Read more
