President Muhammadu Buhari is set to swear in ministers-designate on Wednesday, 21st of August, 2019. The National Assembly had, last Tuesday, concluded the screening of nominees for ministerial appointments and approved all 43 names sent in by the President.

2. Nigeria’s secret police, DSS, may detain Sowore for 90 days

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned till Thursday, the 8th of August to rule on an application brought before it by the Department of State Services (DSS) for an order to detain the 2019 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Mr. Omoyele Sowore, for 90 days. According to the DSS, it is seeking the detention order in order to carry out and conclude its investigation.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze three bank accounts said to belong to the Lagos State Government over an alleged fraud of N9.9bn. The three bank accounts, domiciled in First City Monument Bank, Access Bank, and Zenith Bank, are numbered 5617984012, 0060949275 and 1011691254, respectively.

5. Unite or APC will capture Bayelsa, Jonathan warns PDP members

Former President Dr Goodluck Jonathan has warned members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may capture the state in the November 16 govenorship election except they stay united. Jonathan gave the warning at the PDP Elders Advisory Council meeting held at the Government House, Yenogoa.

6. #REVOLUTIONNOW: Police arraign five protesters, lawyer in court

Five members of #RevolutionNow protest group, and a lawyer were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The protesters who are Ehis Omoshomio, 35; Gabriel Ojumah, 51, Juwon Sanyaolu, 22; Stanley Anobi, 28; Elias Ozikpu, 30; Kenechukwu Ukachukwu, 25, were charged with two counts of unlawful assembly and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

7. EFCC left ‘empty-handed’ after searching my home for 5 hours —Ex-Gov Yari claims

The former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, has reacted to reports that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carted away some valuables during a raid on his residence. Reports had been rife that the EFCC had recovered 21 exotic vehicles from the country home of the former Governor, Abdulaziz Yari.

8. Zamfara to pay N30,000 minimum wage to LG workers

While some governors in the country claim that their states lack the capacity to pay with N30,000 minimum wage signed into law by President Muhmmadu Buhari, the Chairman, Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Mallami Yandoto said that the state government would pay the N30,000 minimum wage to council workers in the state.

53 filling stations and four gas plants in Kaduna have been sealed by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) for offences, including under-dispensing, hoarding and diversion of petroleum products. According to DPR, one of the 53 filling stations was sealed after it was found to be over dispensing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
