1. Buhari in a hurry to create jobs for Nigerians —Oshiomhole

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has re-echoed the determination of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to accelerate economic growth to meet the needs of Nigerians in his second term in office. Oshiomhole, who was receiving a delegation from the Vietnamese government on Tuesday, stated that the APC-led Federal Government was reviving the textile industry in order to achieve this. Speaking on the plan to accelerate economic growth, Oshiomhole said, “the idea is to work towards taking advantage of comparative advantage in this sector in order to help provide jobs to the over 200 million of our population.”

2. IPPIS: Are you trying to sustain a corruption-riddled system? BMO quizzes ASUU

The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has described the opposition of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to the full implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) as corruption fighting back. BMO warned ASUU not to allow itself be seen as a saboteur of a scheme that was bound to weed out ghost workers and improve the efficiency of payroll administration in public universities.

3. NASS will fight corruption —Lawan

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, said on Tuesday that the National Assembly would provide the necessary support to the anti-corruption agencies in the fight against corruption. A statement issued by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Press, Ezrel Tabiowo, said Lawan gave the assurance while declaring open third EFCC National Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.

4. Adamawa governor set to expand cabinet, receives Assembly permission to appoint 40 advisers

The Adamawa State Assembly has granted permission to the state Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, to appoint 40 Special Advisers. Governor Fintiri had, through a letter read by the Speaker, Aminu Iya-Abbas, at plenary on Tuesday sought permission to appoint more advisers. The governor’s cabinet before now had no commissioners and advisers, except the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

5. NIGER STATE: Lawmakers call for declaration of state of emergency

Niger State caucus of federal lawmakers have called on the Nigerian government to declare a state of emergency on roads in the state. Chairman of the caucus, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, during a press briefing on Tuesday, explained that all federal and state roads in Niger had collapsed. Abdullahi expressed fears that the state would be completely cut off anytime soon, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari for special funds for repairs.

6. Police‎ hand over eight rescued children to Kano government

The Nigeria Police on Tuesday formally handed over to the Kano State government eight out of the nine rescued children who were abducted and sold into slavery in Anambra State. The Director-General of Media and Publicity to the state governor, Malam Aminu Yasar, disclosed this in a statement in Kano. He said the ninth child is ill and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.

7. We reversed $1.5m fraudulent transactions by banks in one day – NFIU

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Moddibo Hamnan Tukur, said on Tuesday that the agency tracked and reversed $1.5 million fraudulent transactions by banks earlier in the day. Tukur stated this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes led by Suleiman Kyari, to defend the 2020 budget of NFIU.

8. Troops arrest gun runner, recover six AK 47 rifles in Kaduna

Troops of Operation Thunder Strike have arrested a suspected gun runner, one Alhaji Shehu, and recovered six AK 47 rifles from him, in Sabo Gayan, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State. The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1Division Nigerian Army, Col. Ezindu Idimah, who disclosed on Tuesday, said the suspect was arrested on Saturday in continuation of efforts to clear Kaduna-Abuja highway of “undesirable elements.”

9. Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta lead in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Nigeria

Governors of the 36 states in the country heard on Tuesday that Rivers and Akwa Ibom states have the highest number of HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Nigeria as at December 31, 2018. Delta and Lagos followed the two states. This information was revealed by the delegation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in Nigeria and Department of Defense, that visited the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to seek the governors’ approval for the abolition of user fees by all HIV positive persons in the country.

10. Another set of victims rescued from ‘torture homes’

The operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Tuesday rescued 11 inmates from “torture homes” in Zaria, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The inmates comprising mostly men and children with ages between 11 and 40 years, were rescued from the rehabilitation homes known as “Malam Aliyu Mai Adakan Salatul Faith in,” located in Limanchi Corner and Marmara, in Zaria LGA.
