1. Buhari speaks at UNGA, knocks social media, describes P&ID judgment as scam

President Muhammadu Buhari, while addressing world leaders at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA74), has advocated action against social media to prevent it from causing chaos in the world. He blamed social media outlets for fueling major crimes such as mass killings, calling on major tech companies to be alive to their responsibilities.

2. Alleged rift between Buhari, Osinbajo not our business —Senate

The Senate has said that it would not interfere in the alleged fallout between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. There have been speculations that Osinbajo’s powers were being whittled down at the Villa, and that he was being asked to seek approvals from the president to run agencies assigned to his office.

The Zamfara Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government to reveal the names of politicians alleged to be sponsors of the Boko Haram threat in the state. ,Governor Bello Matawalle had through his Director-general of Press Affairs, Yusuf Idris, alleged that some disgruntled politicians had perfected plans to destabilise the state.

The Senate has summoned the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, and the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, over the deteriorating conditions of Police colleges across the country. Senate summoned the ministers on Tuesday after the adoption of a motion sponsored by Senator Barinada Mpigi, of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and nine others during their first plenary following resumption from annual recess.

7. Frustrations allegedly triggered by ex-Gov Ambode’s ‘misrule’ sparks protests in Lagos

Protesters under the aegis of Lagos Youth Vanguard (LYV) on Tuesday stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly and the state secretariat demanding the probe of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode over alleged corrupt activities. The protesters alleged that Ambode mismanaged state resources, saying that he did not follow due procedures in dealing with the state’s finances.

8. Court to rule on EFCC documents in Babachir Lawal grass-cutting scandal

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama has fixed October 16 for ruling on the admissibility of documents presented by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the trial of Babachir Lawal. Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was fired by Buhari in 2017 following his alleged involvement in a grass-cutting contract scandal.

9. Cultists overrun Auchi, kill 7

Emerging reports say several persons may have been killed in a cult clash in Auchi, Edo State. Unconfirmed reports put the number of dead at seven. The clash is said to have begun over the weekend and occurred at Iyakpi, near Auchi Polytechnic. Public Relations Officer, Edo state command, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor confirmed the development, adding that 58 suspects have so far been arrested.

10. ‘Judgment, not justice,’ Okorocha’s in-law, Nwosu, rejects tribunal’s judgment, heads for Appeal Court

Not satisfied with the Imo Election Petitions Tribunal ruling delivered over the weekend, Uche Nwosu, governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) and his party have vowed to appeal the judgment. The tribunal had on Saturday upheld the election of Governor Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing three petitions challenging his victory, including Nwosu’s suit.
