10 women die, 100 rescued after boat filled with migrants sinks

Italian coast guards have informed that10 women lost their lives and another 100 were rescued in two separate operations when a boat filled with migrants drowned in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to an Italian coast guard, Captain Cosimo Nicastro, the overcrowded rubber boat had taken on water before it capsized leaving 10 women dead.

The coast guard ship Diciotti rescued 107 people from the same boat, Nicastro said, adding that the boat had taken on so much water that it was about to sink.

“It would have been a greater tragedy just a few minutes later,” he said.
