100 days: Nigerians question Buhari, APC’s integrity

Published

on

Nigerians have called to question, the integrity of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari for denying that they have no hand in two documents that were circulated during the campaigns on what an APC presidency hopes to have achieved after one hundred days in office.
They also denied circulating documents which contained such promises, saying that two booklets titled “One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days” and “My Covenant With Nigerians” which allegedly made the rounds were not products of the APC.
APC national spokesperson, Lai Mohammed had said President Buhari never promised to do anything within his 1st 100 days in office.
According to him, “Buhari never promised to do anything in 100 days, that’s the honest truth. You see, when you are running a campaign, all kinds of literature will emerge from all sorts of groups but there are only just two documents that you can judge a party with. That is the constitution of the party and the manifesto of the party. Those are the only two documents that are registered with INEC you can go to court on or hold a party accountable for” he said.
Also, Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu who incidentally was the Director, Media and Publicity Department of the APC presidential campaign organisation said in Abuja on Tuesday that President Buhari during his campaign never made specific promises of what to achieve within his first 100 days in office.

However, many Nigerians have faulted such claims and expressed disappointment at the denial, describing it as a betrayal of confidence.
Former governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said: “President Buhari has very serious problems. The most worrisome is what seems like a design to scatter this country through his appointments.
“Whether he is spending 100 or 200 days is irrelevant. Where are his ministers? Where is the representation on the basis of the geo-political zones.
Former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, said: “I hope it is beginning to dawn on Nigerians now that APC is the greatest deceiver we have in this country.

“That the party is now denying the document that emanated from them during the electioneering campaigns is very unfortunate and in due time we will respond.”
Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, described the denial as the highest level of perfidy.
Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, said: “It is what I will call the swindling of the electorate; it is also what I call obtaining under false pretence. We saw all the promises flying around and APC never disowned those promises.
“They erected billboards all around major cities. I was thinking they would say it was because they met a different thing on the ground. But to tell us that those things were not promised is the highest level of perfidy. It is most unfortunate.
On his part, National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima said: “It is one thing for politicians to go to the field and make promises, and another thing for them to implement those promises.
“However, we should not be in a hurry. They have their reasons. Perhaps, it is as a result of the challenges they are facing.
“Of course, they are aware of these problems. But I think it amounts to a betrayal to tell Nigerians what you would do and you fail to do it.”

To ride to power on the wings of some rosy promises, and then turn around and deny those same promises, is deceitful, and insulting to the people. It’s like trying to outsmart the whole nation. We shall see sha, make we dey observe first.

Oga, I’m talking about the Nigerian people, of course. And I’m not talking about opinion polls here, I don’t need to produce any figures. Read my comment well. And, isn’t it in order to observe for now??

Its amazing sometimes some people write just for the heck of it.Oga in one vain you are assertive and then in another not sure. Haba give yourself a break. Governance is not an event but a process. Rather than reading or quoting from any document let me say even in these 100days there’s been lots and lots of values intrinsically achieved e.g is it the new psyche of the military that is just in recent past too timid to go headlong with

Boko haram as alluded to by the Americans coupled with hoisting of flags on Nigerian soil by boko haram? That has virtually been put to a stop? These are all parts of total achievements that cannot be timelined. Pls note no one has risen to power by any rosy promises but bcos of a clueless administration that held sway for 8years. Pls get hold of PMB’s chattam house address you will discover there are no time lines.

Talking about “values intrinsically achieved”, I will like to add to what you mentioned, which by the way, is a singular achievement based on the continuation of what the clueless administration started.
Buhari/APC’s exclusive “total achievements” include running the country without ministers for over three months, because flawless Nigerians like him are hard to come by; trips to Europe and the US where he made the courageous 97%/5% declaration; making key appointments with deliberate disregard for federal character (in compliance with the 97%/5% declaration); fighting corruption by hounding members of the opposition only; I could go on.
For your information, I supported Buhari; I got a hoarse voice arguing with my friends who were GEJ supporters about why GMB would be a better option. And I still believe in Buhari till now, but that does not mean that I will endorse everything he and his APC say/do. Some of us cannot turn a blind eye to what we think is wrong. Apparently, for you, Buhari/APC cannot do wrong. And since you have appointed yourself their unofficial and UNPAID spokesperson, I wish you a successful career. A word of advice: you can start that self saddled career by getting your grammar right.

Whenever one expresses an opinion that runs contrary to others there seams readily an escapist route that degenerates into name calling, tags and all that but never mind what we’re doing is proffering solutions to myriad of problems in this country.its really great at least to know the minds of our fellow countrymen. You have expressed a lot of jitters about PMB even though as you say being your man, his running single handedly the affairs of this country for well over three months, hounding of opposition for prosecution and finally making his appointment with no regard with the constitution. Now lets face the issues one by one. I join recall since when people like Kakwanso Amechi, Saraki and others

I totally agree with your NEW angle to this discussion: let us stick to the issues and proffer solutions instead of degenerating into “name calling, tags, and all that”. I thought I sensed a challenge to some war of words, and I wasn’t going to be outdone easily. But now that you are a brand new man, with new found ethics of public discourse, I entirely concur with your present disposition.

Now to the issues. I am aware that the ICPC has dispatched teams to Rivers and Kano States to investigate the petitions against Amechi and Kwankwanso. I just wonder why it is now the virtually toothless ICPC and not the hard-biting EFCC, as has been the case for several members of the opposition. As far as I know, the ICPC has just dispatched people to investigate the petitions. Several members of the opposition have been thrown in jail (some with their family members) by the almighty and presidential EFCC. I am not in any way suggesting that these members of the opposition are innocent, neither am I alluding that they were mistreated. I am just saying simply, that what is good for the goose, should be good also for the gander. Now, talking about Saraki, Toyin Saraki was only invited by the EFCC to answer some questions at a time when her husband had fallen out of favour with APC bigwigs by outsmarting his own party and using the opposition to get himself elected as Senate President. For me, that doesn’t pass a demonstration of fair-play.

As for the matter of appointments, three months plus and 35 appointments are enough to assess the President’s open mindedness and regard for the federal character principle. By the way, the principal officers appointed so far are not PMB’s personal staff. They are all public servants.
I perceive our leader PMB to be a sincere man. But he is not perfect, neither is he overly brilliant. People like me will continue to ask questions and make comments. I will never turn a blind eye when I think things are not going right. With the number of APC hawks surrounding the President, he will never succeed if the public goes silent. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

Nigerians don enter “one chance bus” with APC oooo!!!. Can’t put it better than Yinka: “It is what I will call the swindling of the electorate; it is also what I call obtaining under false pretense. We saw all the promises flying around and APC never disowned those promises. They erected billboards all around major cities. I was thinking they would say it was because they met a different thing on the ground. But to tell us that those things were not promised is the highest level of perfidy. It is most unfortunate.” By the way, “obtaining under false pretenses” in popular lingo is known as 4.1.9. !!!
