More cases filed against PDP national officers as suits want deputy-chair, treasurer sacked

Brewing fresh crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen its two national office holders, deputy national chairman (South), Yemi Akinwonmi and the national treasury, Aribisala Adewale, dragged before the Abuja Division of a Federal High Court.

Some of the party chieftains from the South-West zone who dragged them to the court in fresh suits, are praying that the emergence of the duo in the December 9 PDP convention as national office holders be nullified by the court.

The duo of Akinwonmi and Adewale, had emerged national officers of the PDP after they were among those nominated from the South-West geopolitical zone of the PDP during the party’s last national convention.

The petitioners are asking the court to substitute Akinwonmi with Segun Seriki in the suit the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Akinwonmi are defendants.

The other suit, marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/1288/2017, seeking the sacking of Adewale as the National treasurer, was filed by Alhaji Adewale Adeyanju, who was an aspirant for the position at the December 9, 2017 convention.

These suits brought the number of recently elected national offices of the PDP being challenged before the Federal High Court in Abuja to four.

The four offices are the national chairman, deputy national chairman (South), national treasurer and the deputy national publicity secretary.

An earlier suit filed by Chief Pegba Otemolu and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1284/2017 before the Federal High Court in Abuja is praying for nullification of Adewale’s election as the national treasurer and Diran Odeyemi’s election as the PDP’s deputy national publicity secretary.

Another one from a chairmanship aspirant, Taoheed Adedoja, also filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, is asking for the removal of Uche Secondus, as the national chairman of the party.
