12 imprisoned for allegedly setting Ogun deputy Speaker’s office, vehicles ablaze

Police arrest 27-yr-old over kidnap, murder

An Ogun state Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta on Thursday, ordered that twelve men suspected to be involved in the setting ablaze of the state’s deputy speaker’s office and vehicles be remanded in prison custody.

The suspects were arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy to commit felon, arson and attempted murder.

While narrating the incident to the court, the Prosecuting Counsel, Mr Bale Nimnan said the defendants and others who are still on the run entered the office of the deputy speaker and set it ablaze, along with five vehicles on April 21 around 7.30pm in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

He also added that the defendants attempted to kill two men Adesina Olasunkanmi and Azeez Abiodun after injuring them severely with a machete.

The defence counsel Mr Adeyemi Razaq pleaded with the court to grant the defendants bail with the assurance that they will attend their trial.

The magistrate Olakulehin Oke, however, refused the bail application and ruled that the matter be transferred to the High Court before adjourning the case till July 2.
