12 ‘one chance’ robbers nabbed for impersonating Police, DSS officers in FCT
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with the notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate, including three impersonators of police and Department of State Services (DSS) officers.
FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Olatunji Disu, during a press briefing on Wednesday, revealed that the suspects were part of a gang that masqueraded as security personnel, targeting unsuspecting victims and demanding ransom for their release.
“They pick up unsuspecting victims and take them to unknown locations demanding ransom for their release,” Disu explained.
The breakthrough came after Jeremiah David and Amaka Humina reported the incident at the Anti-One Chance Office on October 12.

According to the victims, they were stopped by three men in a white Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 221 BV while traveling from Keffi to Abuja. The suspects claimed to be DSS officers on investigation, forcibly ejected the victims, and demanded they call family members to raise money for their release.
The police recovered six vehicles, a locally made barreta pistol, and various phones, including iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung S20, and Samsung S8 Plus, from the suspects.
The suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious syndicate and impersonating security personnel to defraud citizens.
In a related incident, police operatives arrested gang members who had escaped after their vehicle was set ablaze with their leader in Kubwa area. The suspects were apprehended at their hideout in Malaysia IDP Camp, APO mechanic village.
The police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent falling victim to these scams.
