ZAMFARA: Gbajabiamila dangles extra-budgetary provision before warring factions for 1 year of ceasefire

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives member representing Surulere Federal Constituency of Lagos, Femi Gbajabiamila has emerged Majority Leader of the House.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara made the announcement on the floor of the green chamber on Tuesday.

Also, for the minority principal positions, Chukwuma Onyema is the minority house leader; Leo Ogor, deputy minority house leader‎; Umar Barde; minority whip, and Binta Bello; deputy minority whip. ‎

He also announced Buba Jibrin as the deputy house leader, Alhassan Doguwa as the chief whip, and Pally Iriase deputy chief whip.

This may have finally put to rest the leadership crisis that had prevailed in the lower chamber of the federal legislature since the inauguration of the 8th assembly.

Gbajabiamilia was APC favourite for the post of speaker but lost to Yakubu Dogara, and this had created friction between the party and the House leadership with both parties sticking to their guns.

In efforts to resolve the impasse, President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier today met the representatives ahead of their resumption, but the lawmakers emerged from the meeting singing discordant tunes, suggesting that the meeting with the president had failed.
