At least 13 people were feared dead on Friday in two separate attacks by suspected militants who attacked Elepete community in Igbo-Olomu, Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

It was learnt that 10 of the victims were killed Thursday night, while the rest were killed at about 10am Friday.

The first attack was said to have occurred at Ola-Imam area of Elepete when the suspected militants allegedly attacked some security volunteers while the second incident occurred at Phase 1 area.

The attacks were a continuation of reprisal attacks on Elepete and Muti communities by militants which started Monday, as residents deserted the areas.

It was gathered that after an earlier attack on Elepete, residents had deserted the area, but a few who returned, formed a volunteer vigilante group to secure the community only for the militants to attack them, killing 10 members of the vigilante group.

As returnees fled the area by Friday morning, the militant launched another attack around 10am killing three more people.

Eyewitnesses who escaped from one of the attacked areas, said the gunmen suspected to be from the Niger Delta came through the waterways and started shooting sporadically as soon as they arrived, throwing the communities into pandemonium.

Streets, schools, shops, markets and other business centres in the areas were said to be deserted as people fled.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that the communities were in disarray as police and army tried to restore some tranquility in the area.
