14-yr-old wife arrested for hacking husband who ‘starved’ her

Aisha Isah, 14, is now telling the police all she knows after she allegedly killed her husband of five years when she hit him in the head with a pestle for starving her for two days.

The suspect who hails from Lifari Village in the Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State had reportedly complained of starvation and maltreatment since she started living with her husband identified as Isiaka Usman, 40, who already had two wives before she was married.

According to Aisha during her confessional statement, she confronted her husband over her continued starvation and suffering under his roof but her husband who would have non of her nagging slapped her.

Aisha said in her retaliation, she picked up a pestle and hit him in the head as he unfortunately collapsed and died.

She said; “And when I confronted him, he slapped me and out of anger, I hit him on the forehead with a pestle and he collapsed and died.”

Aisha added, “My husband had the habit of not giving us money for food and each time we (the wives) confront him, he would tell us to go to our parents’ home and eat. He never cared about us; he beat us every time we demanded money for food.”

The 14-year-old however pleaded for forgiveness saying she retaliated out of anger.

“I am sorry for what happened, it is the devil’s work and I pray my parents will forgive me; I never knew that he would die, I regretted all my actions,” she said.

The incident was confirmed by Bala Elkana, the police spokesman, who described it as unfortunate adding that the suspect would be prosecuted as a juvenile offender while also revealing that the victim died at Mashegu Hospital where he was taken for treatment.
