15,000 Nigerians from Sokoto, Zamfara taking refuge in Niger

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said that over 15,000 Nigerians, from Sokoto and are Zamfara are currently in Niger Republic as refugees.

According to the Head of NEMA’s Operations in Sokoto, Dr Kofoworola Soleye, who disclosed this in Gusau on Thursday attached my the stakeholders’ meeting on disaster management organised by the agency, most of the refugees are women and children.

Soloye further disclosed that the refugees are from communities in Isa and Sabon-Birni Local Government Areas of Sokoto State and Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas in Zamfara State, adding that the agency has visited them and conducted need assessment exercise so as to assist them

“We have already reported back to NEMA headquarters and very soon the relief materials would be provided for them,” he said.
