The dream of any graduate, or serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to receive gainful employment at the right time.

This dream came through for 164 winners of the 2012, 2013 and 2014 batches of the NYSC Presidential award on Monday when they were offered automatic employment into the federal civil service by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The president also went a step further to offer automatic scholarship for any of the 164 award winners that wish to further his or her education.

While 55 persons were selected from 2012; 52 were picked from 2013 and 57 selected from 2014 service year.

A total of N23.5 million cash was also raised for nine corps members who sustained various degrees of injuries during their service years.

N5 million was donated by Ibeto Group to one of the nine injured corpers who could not attend the event because of her injury.

While Akwa Ibom State governor, Godwill Akpabio donated N5 million to the nine corpers, Heritage Bank donated N1.5 million to each of the nine corpers.

This is a good gesture. 164 out of the at least 100, 000 that must have served between those three years is quite low though. I’m certain less than 40% of the graduates in those three years are yet to enter gainful employment. We just papering over the cracks…God bless Nigeria
