18 feared dead, 70,000 displaced as Thailand is submerged by flash floods

The southern part of Thailand has been submerged by floods after torrential rains swept through provinces killing 18 people with more than 700,000 affected over the past week.

According to Thailand’s interior ministry in a statement on Saturday, the flooding, which is roof-high in some areas, turned roads into rivers, inundating farmland, and damaged more than 1,500 schools in the region.
