2 climbers die after reaching peak of mount everest
Two adventurers, a Dutch man, Eric Arnold, 35 and an Australian woman, Maria Strydom both lost their lives after getting to the summit of Mount Everest thus becoming the first deaths to be recorded on world’s highest mountain this year.
Both climbers apparently died of altitude sickness while descending from the summit of Mount Everest and according to Pasang Phurba of the Seven Summit Treks agency in Kathmandu in Nepal, Eric had enough bottled oxygen with him, as well as his climbing partners, but he complained of getting weak and diedFriday night near South Col before he was able to get to a lower altitude.
His climbing partner, Maria, died just hours after Eric as she also showed  signs of altitude sickness Saturday afternoon before she gave up the ghost, Phurba said.
Both climbers that died were part of the same expedition team. It was still undecided when and if their bodies would be brought down from the high altitude and it would depend on the team and family members, he added.
