2 dead, scores injured as train derails in Germany

German police say at least two people have been reported dead and 100 left injured after a train derailed in the southern part of Germany.

According to Police spokesman Stefan Sonntag, the incident involved two regional trains which collided near Bad Aibling in the Bavaria with several wagons overturning.

‎Though, the number of those dead and others that were injured in the crash is expected to rise, Sonntag said the scene of the accident on the tracks between Rosenheim and Holzkirchen was so confusing that he did not have any specific number of casualties.

Sonntag said; “This is the biggest accident we have had in years in this region and we have many emergency doctors, ambulances and helicopters on the scene”.

Continuing, Sonntag said several rescue helicopters were also involved.
“We have a lot, a lot of staff on the ground who are all involved in the rescue efforts”.

Reports say as much as eight rescue helicopters were standing on a lawn near the entrance to the town of Bad Aibling with rescue operations said to be ongoing.
