2 suspects arrested over murder of NURTW treasurer

LAGOS: Motorists relieved as Police suspend Operation Velvet for 30-days

Two suspects have reportedly been arretsted in connection with the murder of Alowonle Asekun, the Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Jibowu-Yaba Branch, who was killed last Friday by hoodlums.

The arrest of the two suspects was confirmed by CSP Chike Oti, the state Police Public Relations Officer who also noted that the case has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for further findings.

CSP Oti said, “The deceased was a member of a motor union and was trailed to the Ikorodu area of Lagos by a fractional group of the union and killed.

“During the fracas that led to his death, the police in the Ikorodu Division received a distress call and mobilised swiftly to the scene and brought the situation under control. Two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

“However, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Zubairu Mu’azu, has directed that the case be transferred to the homicide section, SCIID, Panti, for further investigation.”

Reports say the deceased was shot in front of the First Atlantic School on Friday, February 8, 2019, while on his way out of the Ajasa-Lamberu Street in the Grammar School area, by hoodlums who accosted him.

The hoodlums trailed Asekun to the area and stopped him just right in front of the school where he was shot three times as his assailants ensured he died on the spot before leaving the scene of the incident.
