2 traffickers escape death, hospitalised after swallowing 137 cocaine wraps

Two Nigerian passengers traveling from Sao Paulo, Brazil en route Dubai nearly died as a result of illness upon their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and were both rushed to a hospital for medical care.

Spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mitchell Ofoyeju said the lives of the suspects were saved after 137 wraps of cocaine were successfully taken out from their stomachs.

According to the Chairman of the NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.), the two suspects Ogbobe Chidiebere (33), and Okonkwo Nonye (33), who are both from Enugu State are now in stable health condition.

The two suspects who will be charged to court very soon say they were thankful to the NDLEA for saving their lives.

Expressing his gratitude and regret for his action, one of the suspects, Chidiebere said, “I thank the NDLEA for taking us to the hospital on time. I know that I made a mistake but I never knew that it could have led to my death. Even though, they will take me to court, I still thank God that I am alive. This has taught me a bitter lesson.”
