20-yr old student gets 3-month sentence for snatching bag

John Onoja, a 20-year-old student will spend the next three months behind bars after he was sentenced by a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday for snatching a bag.
Mr Garba Ogbede, the judge, however gave the convict who pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, an option of N5, 000 fine and warned him to desist from crime in future.
The judge ordered Onoja, who resides at Lugbe Zone 9, Abuja to pay the complainant, Raphael Obi, N32, 000 restitution and to return the stolen bag.
The convict was thereafter taken to Kuje Prisons after he was unable to pay the N5, 000 fine ordered by the court.
Ndidi Ukoha, the Prosecutor informed the court that the bag which was snatched on the 22nd of March at Lugbe in Abuja was valued at N25, 000 and contained a cell phone worth N12, 000, two pairs of canvass valued at N8, 000 and N10, 000 cash.
Ukoha told the court that the convict was apprehended after the complainant raised an alarm and Onoja was caught and handed over to the police saying the offence he committed flouted section 288 of the Penal Code.
