2015 budget N17bn bribe: Okonjo-Iweala misquoted-Senate

Published

The Senate has said that the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was misrepresented in the media reports, claiming that she accused the National Assembly of collecting N17 billion as a bribe from the Executive to pass the 2015 Appropriation Bill.

The Senate also said that the N17 billion was not credited to the personal accounts of the lawmakers, explaining that the money was for the funding of various constituency projects designated by the legislators as empowerment or developmental projects for their constituents.

The Spokesman of the Senate, Senator Aliyu Sabi (APC, Niger North), made the clarification while responding to questions on the matter in Abuja, during an exclusive interview with New Telegraph correspondent.
