RESTRUCTURING: PDP taunts APC, says Abdullahi being clever by half

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the formal launch of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), a platform backed by former president Olusegun Obasanjo to provide an alternative direction for the country, dismissing it as a platform without any real threat to its prospects in the 2019 elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed his views in two separate interviews.

Abdullahi said, “The prospect of a coalition does not threaten the APC at all. The only threat we can begin to worry about lies with the Nigerian people.

“If it is about competition for power, how many political parties do we have? That is enough reason for us to worry about competition. If another coalition is set up for the purpose of winning power good luck to them, that is the essence of constitutional democracy, a multi-party system thrives in that kind of situation.

“So, we don’t feel any threat, we don’t feel concerned they are welcome to the field.”

The APC spokesperson also said, “Did you attend our own event today? We are busy doing our work. “How many months to the election? At the function, how many governors did you see there? How many senators did you see there? How many House of Representatives’ members did you see there?

“When a part of the PDP left for the APC in 2014, how many governors were there? At least five governors were there. How many senators? We have more than 40 senators.

“With due respect, let them continue to do what they are doing. We are busy. They are not even a political party. If they are not a political party, how can they be a threat to us? Civil society organization can’t contest election in Nigeria,” he said.
