2019: How Arewa youths will decide between Buhari, Atiku, Tambuwal, others

Arewa Consultative (ACYM) Youth Movement has revealed the strategy it will employ to decide on whom to support as its presidential candidate in 2019.

The group, which is the youth wing of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), said it will hold a mock election to decide the popularity of northern politicians who have indicated interest to run for the office of the president in the coming general elections?

The president of the group, Comrade Kabiru Yusuf, stated this on Thursday in Abuja soon after he was reelected president of ACYM.

He said, “We shall conduct a mock election with a view to feeling the pulse of the Arewa youths in Nigeria and eventually decide on a most prospective candidate.

“The mock election will soon commence on our website and will last for a period of 60 days before the announcement of results. There cannot he a better chance for us to contribute to give Nigeria the kind of leadership it deserves in this 21st century.

”The essence of this mock election is to ensure that the Arewa Youths give their support to a youth friendly candidate who shares the aspiration and vision of the Nigerian youth towards a developed and a united Nigeria.”

Among those in the list of the group for the mock poll include incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), and Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna) as well as incumbent governors of Sokoto and Gombe States, Aminu Tambuwal and Ibrahim Dankwambo respectively.

Yusuf then urged youths of the region to ensure they get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), saying that 2019 election would provide another chance to attempt “to correct the leadership problems facing the North and Nigerians at large.”

He added, “We have to give Nigeria a candidate that will unify our land, obey the rule of law and rebuild our land.”
