2019: Atiku, Ezekwesili finally sign peace accord

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) counterpart, Obiageli Ezekwesili have at last signed the peace accord ahead of the 2019 general elections.

They signed the accord on Tuesday during separate visits at the office of the National Peace Committee (NPC) in Abuja.

Atiku, who assured he was committed to free, fair and credible election while signing the peace accord, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the peace deal and urged him to also sign the electoral act amendment bill into law.

According to him, Buhari assenting to the Electoral Act will demonstrate his readiness to ensure free and fair elections

Ezekwesili had also said while signing the agreement that President Buhari should sign the electoral act amendment bill as that is the only way to assure Nigerians that he is ready for free and fair elections in 2019.

On Tuesday, President Buhari and other presidential candidates had signed the peace deal. But Atiku, Ezekwesili, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Donald Duke and that of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, were absent at the signing ceremony.

Both Atiku and the PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, had blamed his absence at the event on Tuesday on communication lapse between the NPC and the party national secretariat.

Sowore had also claimed that he was never informed of the event.
