2019: Buhari, politicians above 60 are burdens, mustn’t be elected –Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese in Anambra State, Most Revd Paulinus Ezeokafor, has suggested that President Muhammadu Buhari, 74 and other politicians who are above 60 years of age are burdens to Nigeria’s growth.

He therefore called on the electorate not to vote for such people in 2019.

According to the Bishop, these politicians are a “burden on the growth and development of the country,” and ought to have retired from active politics at such an age.

He stated this in Awka, Anambra State capital on Sunday, challenging Christians to ensure active participation during the 2019 general election.

He further frowned at Christians who usually will speak ill of government but would never participate in election processes.

He said, “I can’t understand why retirees would want to seek political offices. Such people are a burden to growth.

“I urge Nigerians to stop electing such people. 2019 is crucial in our history. We should vote wisely; we should avoid voting for retirees.”

According to Bishop Ezeokafor, if wrong leaders must be voted out, all eligible voters must be fully involved by ensuring they obtain their permanent voter card and casting their votes during elections.

He warned Christians against selling their votes for a token, adding that anyone who engages in such act must be ready to endure the consequences.
