2019: Crisis brews in PDP campaign council

Published

on

All seem not to be well within the Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was inaugurated last Thursday in Abuja. The over 100-member council has the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, as its Director-General with six zonal directors for the six geo-political zones.

But, at the weekend, there were reports that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who is zonal director in charge of South-South, has resigned from the position. Wike was conspicuously absent at the inauguration of the council on Thursday.

He was equally absent at PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held before the inauguration.

One of his aides was reportedly quoted to have explained the governor’s inability to attend the inauguration was because of the problem he had with the Army over the state vigilante group.

A source in the party, however, confided in New Telegraph that all is not well within the campaign council. The source who asked not to be named, further disclosed that many party members were disenchanted over the composition of the campaign council.
