POLLS: INEC, security agencies’ actions more important than new electoral bill —Fagbenro-Byron

KOWA Party presidential candidate, Dr. Sina Fagbenro-Byron, and 283 others who are contesting for different positions at national and state levels, have harmonised their campaign strategies ahead of the 2019 general elections.

According to a statement by KOWA national secretary, Comrade Mark Adebayo, made available to Ripples Nigeria Tuesday morning, all candidates of the party gathered in Abuja last Saturday for a one-day Leaders and Candidates Retreat.

Adebayo described the meeting as a major landmark, noting that the party used the event to train and prepare its candidates for the elections, focusing on the relevance of the party’s manifesto to Nigeria’s current challenges and harmonization of campaign strategies to ensure KOWA performs well in the coming national and states elections.

“We found out that the majority of our 284 candidates were new entrants into the party with little or no knowledge of what the party was all about. Therefore, it became necessary to familiarize them with the founding philosophy of the party and its ideological foci.

“We also discovered that majority of them were youths with no prior knowledge of politics and electioneering campaigns. The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, therefore, decided to bring all of them together with the party’s leaders at national and state levels to train them the KOWA way of messaging, focus on intellectual capacity and decent politicking devoid of violence, vulgarity that have marred our political environment for decades,” Adebayo said.

The retreat featured lectures on the party’s manifesto, ideology and training on campaign messaging through effective communication, fundraising, nonviolent campaigns among others.

The party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Fagbenro-Byron, and its presidential candidate in 2015, Professor Remi Sonaiya, who was represented by Habiba Balogun, hammered on the need for all candidates of the party to present issues-based campaigns.

The event was chaired by a founding member of the party Mrs. Bolanle Oshin, on behalf of its Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Mr. Fola Adeola.
