How ex-Gov Lamido battled to get bail

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has declared his interest to contest for the Presidency come 2019 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Lamido made the declaration while speaking with reporters in his village, Bamaina in Birnin-Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, getting the party’s ticket as candidate is not a child play, vowing to earn it.

Lamido is being prosecuted on a 27-count charge alongside his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, and two others by the EFCC.

Lamido allegedly abused his position as Governor between 2007 and 2015 by awarding contracts to companies where he had interest, using his two sons as front.

The former Governor was equally alleged to have collected kickbacks from contractors in the state, with the funds allegedly paid into accounts that were managed by his sons.

Speaking on his presidential ambition, the former governor said, “If my party finds me worthy of the party’s presidential ticket to serve Nigeria, I will thank God and oblige.

“Although there are issues in the party that we are all working to resolve, we hope to have success soon and come out united.

“As I’m talking to you now, we are working silently to resolve our differences and bring back to our fold those that left the party for APC”, he said.

Continuing, Lamido said the party lost the 2015 presidential election because of the internal crisis in PDP before the election, insisting that the former ruling party still has capacity to rule the country again but the members must work hard to achieve that.
