Labour, PPP withdraw petitions against Wike's reelection

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has again reported a purported plan by the Federal Government to use security agencies to disrupt the 2019 governorship elections in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.

Wike made the accusation while receiving the Netherlands ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Robert Petri who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Rivers and Akwa Ibom States have remained under the grip of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and becoming a hard crack for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike sometime last week claimed the federal government had concluded plans to plant 800 guns in the state, with the objective of destabilising Rivers State.

According to him, the federal government plans to mobilize security apparatus from other states to the two states on a later date to manipulate elections in the two states.

He called on the European Union to pay closer attention to the two elections.

He said, “When I raised the alarm that the Federal Government was plotting to plant 800 guns in Rivers State to destabilise the state, it is the truth; it is real.”

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state who is seeking a reelection under the PDP was close to being impeached by five lawmakers before the governor reportedly moved to the Assembly complex to disrupt the process.
