2019: Hope for Okorocha’s in-law as INEC awaits court ruling

Still awaiting the decision of the court on who bears the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published names of candidates from other parties to participate in the governorship election in the state.

With this development, all hope is not lost for Uche Nwosu, the preferred candidate and son-in-law of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

A list released by the INEC on Friday has names of 67 governorship candidates published on it, but left out that of APC.

Sources close to INEC confirmed that the commission was refrained by court orders stopping it from publishing the name of any APC governorship candidate.

And Nwosu has continued to insist, based on the suit filed in court that he would emerge the governorship candidate of the party, and eventual governor of the state.

Candidates who made the list include a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ike Ibe of the Independent Party and a former Senator, Ifeanyi Araraume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Others are Micheal Ikoku of the Young Democratic Party, Linus Okorie of the Young Progressives Party and Alloysius Osuji of Mass Action Joint Alliance.

Three women emerged as governorship candidates. They are, Omeogu Chidiebere of the African Action Congress, Joy Udodiri of MMN and Adaku Ibe of the Democratic Peoples Party.

Uche Nwoso, a son-in-law to Okorocha was declared winner of the October 6 primary election of the party while another candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma was declared winner of another primary election conducted on October 1.

The development has since thrown APC in the state into confusion as to who succeeds gov Okorocha as the governor of the state under the APC.

This has also pitched Okorocha with the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole whim Okorocha insists is behind the omission of Nwosu’s name to INEC In the candidates’ list submitted by the party.
